Movestax Analytics Tools empower you to make data-driven decisions by seamlessly integrating advanced analytics into your projects. Currently, we support Metabase, with plans to add more analytics solutions in the future.

What is Metabase?

Metabase is an open-source business intelligence tool that helps you explore, visualize, and share your data. With an intuitive interface, you can create custom dashboards, generate insightful reports, and answer complex business questions without writing SQL.

How to Set Up Metabase

Follow these steps to integrate Metabase into your Movestax project:

1. Navigate to Analytics Tools

1. Go to your Project Dashboard.
2. Select Analytics Tools from the sidebar.
3. Click Add Analytics Tool.

2. Select Metabase

• From the list of available tools, choose Metabase.
• Note: More tools will be added in the future to enhance your analytics capabilities.

3. Configure Metabase

Metabase requires a PostgreSQL database to store its configurations, dashboards, and user data. You have the following options:

Database Requirement

1. Use an Existing PostgreSQL Database from Your Current Project (Recommended)

   • Select a PostgreSQL instance from your project.

2. Use an Existing PostgreSQL Database from Another Project, Account, or Provider

   • Provide connection details for an external PostgreSQL instance.

3. Create a New PostgreSQL Database for Metabase

   • Set up a dedicated PostgreSQL database within Movestax specifically for Metabase.

4. Database Configuration

You will be prompted to enter the PostgreSQL database credentials:

• Database Host: e.g., postgres.dev.movestax.com
• Database Port: 5432 (default)
• Database Name: metabase (recommended)
• Database User: postgres (default)
• Database Password: Enter the password.

Selecting an Existing Database in Movestax

If you select a PostgreSQL instance from Movestax:

• The connection string, user (default: postgres), database name (default: postgres), and port (5432) will be pre-filled.
• You will still need to manually enter the password since Movestax does not store database passwords.

Test Connection

• Before proceeding, click Test Connection to ensure the credentials are correct and the database is accessible.

5. Complete Setup

Once the connection is successfully tested:

1. Click Finish Setup to create the Metabase instance.
2. A unique URL for your Metabase instance will be generated in the format:
   • deploymentid.metabase.movestax.app

​

6. Access and Configure Metabase

1. Access your Metabase portal via the provided URL.

2. During the first login, you will need to configure Metabase, including creating your admin user and password.

   • Important: Movestax does not manage or store these credentials.

3. To access your Metabase instance later, go to:

   • Project Dashboard > Analytics Tools
   • Click the URL of the desired Metabase instance.

Important Notes

• Password Management:

  • Movestax does not store database or Metabase login credentials. Ensure you store these securely.
  • For lost PostgreSQL database passwords, contact Movestax support for a reset.

• Testing Connections:

  • Connection testing is mandatory during setup to prevent misconfigurations.

• First Access:

  • You are responsible for configuring your Metabase portal during the first login.
